How Innovatix gave a big boost to an order management application by bringing in AI to help keep up with growing needs while preserving established business functionality.

The Challenge

A U.S.-based manufacturer of air-data and HVAC testing instruments relied on a long-running Visual FoxPro desktop application that handled everything from order entry to company management, quotations and payments right through to recalibration activities and all operational reports.

The legacy platform had become a bit of a nightmare to keep up to date and extend. The real challenge was to upgrade it without disrupting the business or losing any of the functionality that users had gotten so used to.

The Modernization Approach

Innovatix completely rebuilt the application from the ground up, one feature at a time, using Angular, C#, ASP.NET Web API and SQL Server.

Rather than trying to translate the old code into new code component by component, the team took the time to understand how it all worked and how the business rules got laid out. They used AI tools to lend a hand but still had real people overseeing the whole thing so it all stayed on track.

The approach included database migration, report modernization, reusable components, continuous validation against the legacy application, and user acceptance testing.

What You will Discover

    • How behavior-driven analysis helped preserve established business rules and workflows.
    • How AI-aided development supported feature-by-feature application rebuilding.
    • How 63 forms, 25 reports, database structures, and other application components were addressed.
    • How searchable grids, improved data entry, field validation, and consistent interface components enhanced the user experience.
